“Work On Paper”

Opening Thursday May 29, 2025
From 12 pm - 9 pm

May 29 - July 06, 2025

Paper has a fragile, temporary connotation, but that doesn't make it any less powerful. On the contrary, that fragility adds to the essence of the work. It requires a different way of looking, an awareness of materiality and time. Instead of seeing a work of art as a static object, work on paper invites us to experience it as a snapshot-a captured movement, a thought in the making. Moreover, paper has a rich tradition in art history. From mastery to radical experimentation, work on paper has always served as a medium of expression in its own right. It is not always a preparation for something else; it ís the work itself. In a world where monumentality is often equated with value, work on paper deserves a reappraisal. It is not an inferior medium, but an autonomous work of art with its own power, its own poetry.

Besides the format of the frame, and medium as a kind of dogma - it was decided to put all works at exactly the same price. In this way, the artist in question sees for himself or herself how far he or she wants to go in filling this frame.  In the art world, work on paper is often seen as a by-product-a preliminary study, an intermediate form, a preparation for "the real thing. But that is a misconception. Paper offers immediacy and intimacy that no other medium can match.

Work On Paper includes work of Rund Alarabi, Anne Beumer, Veronika Bezdenejnykh, Sigurrós G.
