“Wake Up Mama!” Is the first duo exhibition of mother and daughter: Reina and Oxiea Villamonte. For the past four years Oxiea has been working with the archive of her mother. Her mother gave up her artistic career to raise her daughter in a foreign country (The Netherlands).

Now twenty-eight years later Oxiea is re-activating her mother’s artistic work through her archive, and they are sharing their story with the world.
From 2024-2025 Oxiea received a one-year research project supported by The Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp. The work being shown is part of her ongoing research.

Oxiea Villamonte (b.1995, Chicago, USA) is based in Amsterdam, is a visual artist working primarily with photography, publications and archives.

Reina Villamonte (Omaha, Nebraska, USA) is based in Amsterdam, is a photographer, writer, activist, and owner of SCUM label and designs.
