Ellen Dhondt

Ellen Dhondt (°2000) draws inspiration from paper doll cutouts from the 1920s. She engages in a challenging pictorial exploration of the tension between identities and their contexts. Her alter ego, “Ellie Dolly,” acts as a kind of medium, investigating personal experiences and connecting them to a universal visual language.
Ellie Dolly appears in various situations, circumstances, and environments that interact with one another. This creates an implicit invitation for the viewer’s imagination, allowing them to engage from their personal experiences and frame of reference.
Ellen Dhondt studied painting under Nel Aerts at KASK in Ghent. She was recently invited for an M residency at Museum M in Leuven.
