Veronika Bezdenejnykh

Kazachstan, b. 1990

Veronika Bezdenejnykh (b. 1990, Kazachstan) born in 1990 in Almaty, Kazakhstan, and now based in Ghent, Belgium, presents an intriguing world of colorful paintings that balance between abstraction and figuration. After completing her master's degree in painting at KASK Ghent in 2015, she began teaching art in 2019 and exhibited her works in renowned spaces such as Ciap, Geukens & De Vil, and at the Pizza Gallery.

Veronika's creations explore personal contemplations, memories, and the essence of image creation. Her paintings manifest in series inspired by wallpaper, mosaics, and decorative techniques, employing mixed media, oil paint, and digital tools. She aims to implement, appropriate, and estrange the space of the work, in a continual attempt "to show the true extent of our kingdom."

Veronika's recent works include canvases constructed from small patches, inspired by Transylvanian carpets and Italian and Greek mosaics. She investigates how color gradations arise by placing tiny pieces with subtly different hues of color next to each other. Her art serves as a means of communication, depicting everything that cannot be expressed in words to understand the world around her.

Veronika's paintings serve as a portal to a universe of emotions, memories, knowledge, and aesthetics. They evoke feelings ranging from a picture against depression and misery to an invitation to peace, tranquility, and open playfulness. Her art is seen as a "closed image cabinet," a "transformation box," and an "emotion creation box," where spectators find a space to do as they please.
