“MEER MEER”, 2025
with Pizza Gallery

Edition 2025 – Fire Walk With Me
August 18–24, 2025

Looking for a place to work, exchange ideas, and be inspired by a natural environment this summer? We invite you to take part in the Artist Run Summer School.

What is Meer Meer?

Meer Meer is an annual initiative by and for artists. It is a temporary space for work and learning, centered on encounter, collaboration, and slowing down. Not a traditional program, but a shared framework for research, experimentation, and collective action.

Location

The Summer School takes place at MEER MEER recidency, a project by Pizza Gallery, shaped by its resident artists.

The site is located around a former sand quarry – a space that, over the past fifty years, has transformed into a thriving natural landscape. The grounds include a small workshop for wood and metalworking, repurposed materials, an outdoor kitchen, camping facilities, a stage, and plenty of room to give shape to your ideas.

Fire Walk With Me

This year, fire is our central motif and metaphor. We gather around flames, as people always have. Fire creates space through transformation — it destroys, but it also makes things possible.

At Meer Meer, we support artistic practices in which social action — conversation, collaboration, activism — becomes part of the work itself. This approach shifts the role of the artist from maker to facilitator, and the focus from object to process.

Participants are invited to engage with the theme in their own way: concretely or poetically, through action, material, or concept.

When?

The program runs from August 18 to 24, 2025.
We ask each participant to be present for at least three days. Those who would like to help build the infrastructure are welcome to join from August 15.

Working Method

The Summer School is shaped by its participants. This means: self-organising, cooking, building, sharing. Contributions can be artistic or practical — together they form the program.

For Whom?

We are looking for up to 60 participants — artists, makers, and thinkers of all ages and disciplines. Both emerging and established practices are welcome. We are mindful of the needs of artist-parents and aim to share responsibility for care.

Programming

The program evolves with the contributions of participants. Some parts will be planned in advance, others will emerge on site. Expect live music, workshops, radio, fire technics, sculptures, collaborative kitchen, talks, in depth dialogues, performance, ... , whatever you bring to the table!

How to Apply

Send a short motivation (max. 300 words) by June 25, 2025 to info@pizzagallery.be

or apply here (link)

Tell us why you’d like to participate and how you’d like to contribute — this could range from an artistic intervention or workshop to cooking a group meal or helping with set-up and take-down.

We’ll notify all applicants by early July. Selection will be based on diversity, motivation, and feasibility within the context.

Contribution

Participation costs €100 for the first three days, plus €30 for each additional day.

This fee mainly covers meals and material costs. If the financial contribution is a barrier to participation, please mention this in your application — we’ll do our best to accommodate.

Meer Meer 2025 is organised by Pizza Gallery in collaboration with:

MEER MEER residents, Het Bos, Onder Stroom, Coming Soon, Cameltown and the Culture Commons Quest Office.
